History

Agricultural specialists from generation to generation!

1955

ESTABLISHMENT OF LES MEUNERIES MONDOU

In 1955, Réal Mondou of Saint-Augustin in Mirabel started making feed on the current site of the mill. At the request of his neighbours, he began producing feed. For his fellow dairy farmers, this help in feeding their herd allowed them to save time and labour. They also knew the qualities of the man…

Mr. Mondou knew the main principles of customer service: honesty, hard work, and attention to detail. Réal Mondou thus took on the challenge by surrounding himself with his family and reliable people. The poultry farmer therefore became a miller. His passion for agriculture remained and continues to this day.

1970

Expansion in Mirabel

Given the success of the mill, new expansion work was undertaken, and it was time again for major renovations.

1989

MICHEL MONDOU TOOK OVER THE BUSINESS

In 1989, Michel purchased the mill from his father. With his wife Christine and their four children, Michel Mondou continued the family tradition. He became involved with producers, worked with his team at the mill, and administered everything.

ACQUISITION OF LES MOULINS B.G.L.

Another noteworthy event in the year 1989: Michel decided to acquire Les Moulins B.G.L., located in Saint-André-d’Argenteuil. Since the latter was a neighbouring territory to that of Mirabel, the two organizations could complement each other and collaborate for better customer service.

In 1960, Hormidas Legault had built the mill in St-André-d’Argenteuil. Nine years later, Mr. Legault disposed of his mill. Between 1969 and 1989, therefore, four buyers operated this company.

After 1989, production continued, and English- and French-speaking producers in the region found a supplier who was conscientious and respectful of their needs.

In 1993, the hardware was expanded. Customers ended up with a thousand square feet of agricultural hardware.

1997

A NEW PARTNER IN THE ADVENTURE
In 1997, Réjean Roy joined Michel Mondou as a shareholder. The two men complemented each other perfectly and would make sure to grow the business over the next few years.
ACQUISITION OF LA MEUNERIE JC LOISELLE

History of the Saint-Marc-sur-Richelieu branch

Ovide Loiselle bought a parcel of land in the village of St-Marc-sur-Richelieu and built a mill there in 1931. Grain was milled there. Over the years, cleaning, seed screening, and Shur-Gain feed production services were added.

Ovide Loiselle’s three sons (Marc-Albert, Joseph, and Pascal) were the owners of this mill as of 1939, but Pascal became the sole successor from 1949 to 1974. He expanded the warehouses, developed the crops sector, and improved the transportation service for the customers.

His eldest son, Jean-Claude, took over in 1974. Based on his experience at Shur-Gain, he applied what his family had applied: customer service and careful attention to the needs of his customers. In turn, he improved the grain structures, installed a flaking machine, and modernized his fertilizer equipment.

In 1997, he sold the business to Michel Mondou and Réjean Roy. While preserving the crops component, the company emphasized its presence in the animal sector.

2000

MAJOR EXPANSIONS IN MIRABEL
Thanks to their quality staff, the managers invested in technology in the early 2000s in Mirabel. An expansion was carried out to install an agglomerator and its components.

The grain reception was modified, the number of silos was increased, and a system for shipping goods tailored to dairy farmers was created. A quality control system was implemented, and the production was computerized.

With respect to the crops sector, the equipment was increased to improve fertilizer production and allow for quality service at all times. The delivery and reception sections increased their workforce.

2001

45TH ANNIVERSARY OF LES MEUNERIES MONDOU

Les Meuneries Mondou had already been in business for 45 years. Some 600 people would pass through the facilities in Mirabel over the course of this historic day. It was a big celebration similar to a family party that would motivate the troops for years to come.

2003

CONSTRUCTION OF NEW OFFICES AND AN AGRICULTURAL STORE
In 2003, offices and an agricultural store were built to meet the needs of farmers. All these adaptations brought in qualified and specialized staff.

ACQUISITION OF AGRI-SERVICE DMR

In 2003, Michel and Réjean decided to partner with Ghislain Demers to purchase Agri-Service DMR, a mill in Saint-Félix-de-Valois that served the Lanaudière and Mauricie regions This mill prioritized the animal feed sector.

History of Agri-Service DMR

In 1930, Willie Brisette of St-Félix-de-Valois built a mill. He already owned a grocery store on the same land. His son Joseph took over. Then, his grandson Jacques continued the tradition.

A fire partially destroyed the business in 1978. It was rebuilt immediately. A few years later, the mill was modernized: a flaking machine was acquired acques Brisette sold the business in 1988. Between 1988 and 2003, four different organizations (Nutribec, Duphil, Agri-Nord, and Synagri) took possession of the mill. As of 1955, the mill operated under the Shur-Gain banner.

In 2003, Agri-Service DMR was acquired by Ghyslain Demers, Michel Mondou, and Réjean Roy.

2008

ACQUISITION OF LA MEUNERIE ROGER RIVEST AND FERTINOR

In 2008, Mr. Mondou and Mr. Roy joined Sylvain Lapalme and Guylaine Rivest to merge La Meunerie Roger Rivest et Fils in Saint-Anne-des-Plaines, which covered the animal feed component, and Fertinor, which was responsible for the crops component, under the same name (Fertinor).

History of Fertinor Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines

As of 1944, Roger Rivest owned a barn in the village of Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines and traded grain. In 1948, he signed an agreement with Shur-Gain for the distribution of animal feed. In 1952, he sold his land to buy another plot in the neighbourhood, where he built his mill. The foundations of Rivest’s business were thereby established.

Mr. Rivest built a fertilizer warehouse in 1962 on a plot of land adjacent to that of his mill. His customers were served with respect and diligence. In 1981, his son Jean-Marie bought the business from his father. With the passion of a new generation, he bought La Meunerie Archambault in St-Lin, which expanded his territory.

In 1991, Jean-Marie Rivest joined forces with Fermin Joubert to create Fertinor. This company made up the crops component, while Roger Rivest et Fils covered the animal feed sector.

Guylaine Rivest had worked at her uncle’s business for 5 years when she partnered in 2002 with Jean-Marie Rivest and Fermin Joubert. She represents the 3rd generation of the Rivest family to operate this business.

2014

THE NEXT GENERATION ARRIVES
Since the fall of 2014, a new air has settled in the Mondou group. Réjean Roy left his duties to make way for new shareholders.

Indeed, three of Michel and Christine’s children, Mélanie, Marie-Ève, and Sébastien, in turn became part of the adventure. This team is also made up of Christian Gonthier.

In 2015, the third of Michel and Christine’s four children, Éric, joined the rest of the family.

2015

ACQUISITION OF LA MEUNERIE MARCEL BOUCHARD

In the early 1920s, Mr. Edouard Henri founded La Meunerie de Saint-Esprit. In 1969, this passed into the hands of Mr. Jean-Paul Pitre.
Twenty years later, in 1988, it was Pierre Bouchard’s turn to acquire it. Already the owner of La Meunerie Marcel Bouchard in L’Assomption, Mr. Bouchard carried out expansions shortly after arriving at the head of the Saint-Esprit company. Indeed, a bag company and a few bulk bins were added in the early ’90s.

In 2015, the Fertinor shareholder group, made up of Sylvain Lapalme, Michel Mondou, Marie-Ève Mondou, Mélanie Mondou, Sébastien Mondou, and Christian Gonthier, took over La Meunerie Marcel Bouchard.
